Beach Volleyball

O volleyball and beach volleyball are the only team sports in which the ball cannot touch the ground during the game being played.

Considered one of the team sports most difficult in the world – and initially called mintonette because of the similarities with badminton – the volleyball was introduced in Portugal by US troops who were on the islands of Azores during the 1st World War.

The main volleyball competitions are organized by the international federation, FIVB. However, there are several federations that have National tournaments and leagues.
